Day 1 — Emotive Body
A technique class in nritta and abhinaya that explores how the body can hold precision as well as feeling. Music, poetry, texture, dynamics and a deeper sensory awareness are approached as integral to nritta.
Day 2 — Chokkanathar Kauthuvam
Chokkanathar is the form of Siva who comes to Madurai to marry its queen-goddess Meenakshi. This kauthuvam celebrates some of his stories from the Thiruvilayadal Puranam. Through this composition dancers explore the meeting point of nritta & abhinaya, and the question of presence in performance.

Divya Nayar is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Chennai. Her journey with the art began at Kalakshetra and deepened through a long and formative mentorship with her guru, Sheejith Krishna. Under his guidance at the Sahrdaya Foundation, she trained rigorously and performed extensively—both as a soloist and repertory artist—developing an approach rooted in both discipline and imagination.
She went on to serve as Creative Director at Isha Samskriti in Coimbatore, where she choreographed and toured large-scale productions for international platforms, including the Save Soil movement and the Mahashivaratri festival.
Divya’s artistic interests lie at the intersection of tradition and innovation. She was part of a research and development project with the internationally acclaimed Akram Khan Company, and is a performer with Jhalaa—a raga-based band led by Grammy-winning composer A.R. Rahman, exploring classical Indian music and dance in contemporary performance contexts.
She currently leads Dakshina, her repertory and learning space in Chennai, where she continues to teach, choreograph, and nurture a community of thoughtful dancers. Her work is guided by joy, generosity, and a deep belief in the evolving spirit of classical art.
